Backus, Albert Ernest "Beanie" (January 3, 1906 June 6, 1990) Indian River School - Florida Artist painting. Oil on canvas - Signed lower right. Featured in the A.E. Backus book - "Chinaman's Dream" is apainting of a nude woman appearing in a cloud of smoke from a pipe. A man is pictured in the lower portion reclining while smoking an opium pipe. Subliminal hints to "chasing the dragon" as a shadowy dragon shaped figurewith a glowing green eye can be seen in the background. This painting was done as a commissioned piece in 1949.
