AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY PROOF AND ESSAYS Lot of over 100 American Bank Note Company (ABNCo) Essays and Proofs. ABNCo was a major worldwide engraver of national currency and postage stamps and was the last private company to print American stamps ending it contract in 1894. ABNCo also dealt with the printing of stocks and bonds because of its close proximity to Wall Street. Lot contains india paper proofs mounted on card stock, many different categories including currency, stocks, bonds and stamps from South America, Asia, Europe and the U.S. Overall good condition with some india proofs having age apparent wear to corners and some loss to stock card surface. Also included are two engraving plates from ABNCo, one reads American Philatelic Society (APS) organized Sept 14, 1886 and the other is of the APS logo of a seated woman. Together these plates would form the entirety of the APS's logo. Also included are early 20th century used stamps from Cuba, The Bahamas, France, Germany and many other countries and several unused early 20th century stamps from Costa Rica, Germany, Yemen and the U.S. Lastly are seven unused stamps from the Columbian Exposition of 1893 commemorating the 400th anniversary of the landing of Columbus, included are the 1-6 cent, the 10 cent and a letter sent to The Philatelic Foundation dated April 6th 1964 inquiring of the Fleet of Columbus 4 cent.
