BOSCHETTI BRONZE 19TH C AFTER AUGUSTUS PRIMA PORTA Benedetto Boschetti (Italian,1820-1870), cast bronze sculpture of Augustus Caesar, after original marble carving found in the town of Prima Porta, near Rome, in 1863. Foundry mark "B. Boschetti, Roma". Sculpture has idealized face, reminiscent of Greek sculpture. His breast plate relief depicts Augustus' negotiation of the return of the Roman legionary eagles from Parthia, Cupid riding dolphin on Augustus' right calf represents his lineage to Venus which was claimed by both Augustus and Julius Caesar, thus making them divine. The original marble work is housed in the Vatican Museum in Rome. Size: 24 x 16 x 42" Condition: Very good, no issues noted. Total Weight 88 lbs.
