NORTH AFRICAN CARVED IVORY TUSK NILE SCENE Early 20th C. African ivory tusk that has been carved in relief to display a vivid North African Nile scene. The primitive tribal carving is Egyptian in theme, and features five different almost hieroglyphic animals. The entirety of the tusk is wrapped by a python, from the base a crocodile emerges, and towards the center of the tusk a falcon, fish and some species of four legged mammal are pictured. A palm tree and another plant are also shown at the base. The entire tusk is covered in an age patina as well as several age cracks. The animals are stained in tiny tool marks.
